It’s Thursday and I am so glad to be sharing this time with you!
At the Attain IVF Program Call Center, we hear the personal stories from hundreds of hopeful parents about the up’s, down’s and around’s that fertility treatment brings to their lives. The method of conception, which normally is a private and natural journey in a couple’s life, now becomes a very public and unknown avenue to navigate. The tests, the stress, the money needed, the anxiety, the waiting for results and the uncertainty – and all you can do is wait and hope.
Everyone deals with stress the best they know how. Some of the suggestions or “coping strategies” given to us by callers include: gathering information, communicating with your partner and friends, relaxation and finding time to have fun. Okay, so these all sound great in theory, I know, but think about it…
Gathering information makes you more aware of the process, hence, reducing the uncertainty – so read and ask questions, especially with the staff at your doctor’s office. They are there to be your advocate in becoming a parent!
Communication is essential, especially with your partner. We all cope differently and that’s okay. Talk about your own experience and your feelings. Listening to your partner and understanding his or her feelings is equally important. Your friends can also be a welcome source of comfort for you. So talk, talk, talk if you find that to be a source of release. You can also find comfort in online communities where you can connect with others going through similar experiences. You are not alone!
Relaxation. (Are you kidding me!) What’s that? We squash so much into a 24-hour-time-frame; just the thought is exhausting. We’ve heard that relaxation breathing is useful when you begin to feel anxious. Take a moment while sitting at your desk or maneuvering the grocery cart around the store and inhale (normally) and exhale slowly!
Fun, woo-hoo! Try to include an enjoyable activity for you to do as a couple like going out to dinner or a movie, or the zoo. Just get out and have fun! Or stay in and have fun.
Remember it is important to do what is best for you!
We at the call center are here to support you, from scheduling your first appointment at your fertility center, through enrolling in the Attain IVF Program that’s right for you. We’re here to take the stress out of the process and answer any questions you have along the way.
We listen, we care and we are committed to your success. We define success the same way you do: bringing a baby home.
Until next time, my best to you. Sharon @ Attain IVF Customer Care.
