How Open Should You Be About Your Infertility?

Something that has come up recently in my own life that may be occurring with many of you is about being how open someone should be about your experience with infertility.

I have had some people close to me act surprised that I would ever dare tell people about something so private.  Not only that, but they also have considered it to be embarrassing or even shameful to admit that maybe you have some trouble conceiving.

Obviously, people will feel different levels of comfort speaking about their issues and may even only tell certain people the full story of their experience.  For me, it has helped immensely to talk about my story regarding infertility and overcoming it so I can share with others who may be going through the same thing.  How can anyone ever have hope and faith in their own situation if they think they are the only one they know going through such a hard time?  I hopefully have provided people with the message that they too can overcome their obstacles and realize their dream of having a baby.  In speaking with my husband and knowing what we went through in trying to conceive, he was completely onboard with the decision to talk about our experience so that it might help others and give them some support.

Infertility should never be something that you are shameful about, it is something that life has dealt you and everyone has to manage with it in their own way.  Here is a great quote that my yoga teacher had in this week’s class”

Trusting in life…Today I will trust that the events occurring in my life are not random.  My experiences aren’t mistakes and the Universe, my Higher Power, and life are not picking on me.  I’m going through exactly what I need to go through to learn something valuable-something that will prepare me for the joy and love I am seeking. – Melody Beattie
