After a miscommunication with my doctor last month, things are finally working out. Next week, I go in for my first HSG (hysterosalpingogram) test.
Can we say bundle of nerves?
I am so excited, and so happy that we are finally FINALLY starting the process. Like, REALLY starting the process! But I’ve heard so many mixed emotions from friends about how this procedure went. I honestly don’t know what to expect, and of course am keeping my fingers crossed that everything comes out smoothly. In the meantime, I am desperately trying to not get my hopes up for a Christmas Miracle immediately following the HSG test! With the plumbing being all cleaned out, I have heard story after story of women who got pregnant immediately following the procedure. Even my nurse at the hospital, when booking the appointment, told me of two women who had good news to share after the test.
I suck at getting my hopes up.
But in the mean time, I really do hope that everything comes back normal. My nurse has assured me that if I get the “all clear,” they would put me on Clomid for the next cycle (assuming there is no big fat positive). I think that two week wait is going to be more difficult than it has been recently, and I’m glad that I will have the business of Christmas and the New Year to keep my mind off of things.
What has your experience been with the HSG test? I’m curious to know what it has been like for others!

While the HSG itself wasn’t all that much fun, I did get pregnant on the next cycle after my HSG. Fingers crossed for you! Good luck!
I’m trying so hard to not get my hopes up about getting pregnant right after the HSG, but I keep hearing these stories! We will see! Thank you!
Good luck this time around, Brittany! I got pregnant the month I had the HSG procedure done. I didn’t find it painful at all – strange and icky, but not all that uncomfortable. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you!
I had my first HSG test last Thursday….well all I can say it was not fun at all but I can promise you not as bad as you think it will be! To me it was just really bad cramps like when your on your period, for me it was bad cause I usally dont get cramps. I was hoping for that Christmas miracle as well!! They found blocked tubes wont know anything until later next week on whats next, but wanted to wish you the best of luck and hope you get that Christmas miracle you are waiting for!! Prayers are with you!
@Lisa — I’m glad that it’s not all that bad. I’ll just up the motrin dose before hand!
@Kristie — thank you very much, and good luck to you with everything!
I did take an 800 mg Motrin before I went, just in case. I should say that my procedure wasn’t bad, but if your tubes are blocked or narrow, I’ve heard it can be painful. Plus, everyone perceives pain differently. I’ve been through natural childbirth twice now, so I think I may have a high pain tolerance.
I had an HSG in 1999..I remember it being very painful..but! I was one of the lucky ones! We were preg. right away! Tia was born on dec 30th that year! I wish all of you who go through this good luck! I will say..the dye they use stripped mucus out of a blocked fallopian tube or so they tell me. I had no idea it was blocked. We already had a daughter before this. Now we want more but face more issues..a tubal to be reversed and an abation to overcome…☺
