The Making of Baby 3.1 Continues
I am not a patient person. Let me just put that right out there. When I decide to do something, it happens. Immediately. December is horrible for me because I have to wait to give people the presents I’ve purchased or made.
So you can imagine how well I’m doing with this whole infertility thing. Basically we wait. Wait to test at the right time. Wait to ovulate. Suffer through the two week wait. Start all over again.
After my HSG last month, the plan was to finish off my blood tests on Day 3 of this cycle. There’s just one catch. December is open enrollment at my husband’s company and we wanted to switch health care plans.
Insurance choices are complicated in our household. We generally go for the mac daddy insurance, the top of the line PPO offered to us. You see, I’m diabetic and I’ve gone through two high risk pregnancies, racking up tens of thousands of dollars in costs to cover my pregnancies and all of those miscarriages.
But last year, we decided to step down a plan and cover a deductible and then 20% of our costs until we hit an outrageously high out of pocket amount. We finally hit our deductible in November and we realized that we need to switch back to the slightly better PPO if we’re ever (fingers crossed) going to go through another high risk pregnancy.
So we switched insurance plans, but the new plan doesn’t kick in until January. So we had to make a choice. Do we cover 20% of all of my infertility testing and do it this month? Or do we wait until January and have it all covered?
Our insurance doesn’t cover any treatment for infertility. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero. I went through each of the offered plans with a fine tooth comb. The only thing our insurance will cover is the testing. We decided that we might as well have insurance cover as much as possible while the costs are still actually covered. That 20% we’re saving will, I’m sure, be put to good use by us at our RE’s office during 2011.
So now I, Ms. Impatience, have to wait some more.
And I still have to wait three more days to open my presents! Um, I mean, before I can make everyone open the presents I’ve given them….
Have a great holiday!
