This week was not only the beginning of a new year for all of us, but it is the beginning of a new decade of my life. This week, I turned 30.
30 can be a scary number for those of us trying to conceive, especially when we have had no luck to date. Both my mother and my grandmother had hysterectomies by the time they were in their early 30′s, due to complications. This was of course after they had each had four children. So here I am, still childless, with 30 staring me straight in the face.
I’m confident that I won’t have to go through what my mom and my grandmother did, but the family history can be scary. As if there isn’t enough pressure on the situation as is, right?
But regardless, it’s here. And with it also being a new year, I’m trying to stay optimistic that things will absolutely go our way. I’m not particularly a fan of New Years Resolutions, but I am trying to better my health in the new year; not only for me, but for the sake of hopefully having an easier time conceiving. More working out. Less potato chips. I don’t want to give up that glass of wine, but will most definitely cut back (because let’s face it. Sometimes that glass of wine tastes REALLY good!) to help the cause. And I am definitely fighting to keep those stress levels at a minimum.
I feel like we are on the right track to make this work. I have officially been referred to the fertility clinic here at our Army hospital, and am waiting on the appointment to meet with the Reproductive Endocrinologist. My primary care doctor also suggested to them that we skip the Clomid cycles, and go straight to Clomid plus intrauterine insemination, due to my husbands low motility rate. A whole new level of research and questions has begun on my end, and I am hoping that all it takes is one cycle before we get what we need — that little bundle of joy.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful beginning to 2011!
