I’ve never been a big fan of New Year’s resolutions, although this year I made some with the intention of keeping infertility from taking over my life. But I have to admit that the start of the New Year is a great time to think about making changes to my life.

I am diabetic. And while I maintain good control over my blood sugar, I know that this affects my chances of having another baby. Let’s face it, I’m not getting any younger, so I need all the help I can get. I need to be as healthy as I possibly can if I want my dream to come true. Plus, I have some people here who already love me and I’m sure they’d like to keep me around for as long as possible.

I know many of you struggle with weight. I do too. So let’s do something about it together. Even if you don’t need to lose weight, join us in making a commitment to become healthier.

Every Wednesday from now until April, I’d like each of you to join me. I’ll be sharing my weight loss (or gain) for the week, as well as “one thing” I’ve made to make myself healthier. I’d like each of you to share your weight loss or the One Thing you’ve done to be healthier. Every Wednesday, comment here on the blog, or on Facebook or write your own blog post and share the link with us.

Most importantly, don’t get overwhelmed. Healthy change doesn’t have to be momentous all at once. Maybe you’re going to stop reading work emails after 6pm to reduce your stress this week. Or maybe you’re going to actually take that prenatal vitamin you have a hard time choking down. Or maybe you’re going to take the stairs at work instead of the elevator. Over time, all of our small changes can add up to something big.

Then let’s stick to it. With all of us cheering each other on, I know we can work to healthier lives.

* Please remember to consult your physician before starting any weight loss or exercise program. Let’s get healthy, but let’s do it right!

  1. Hi Stephanie, this is such a great idea! I will be sharing these posts with our community at Pulling Down the Moon. I can’t wait to read about your success and learn some tips.

  2. Awesome idea Stephanie! I look forward to hearing about your progress.

  3. Thanks so much for helping to spread the word! I know that all of us, even those who don’t need to lose weight, can always do something to be healthier and happier. That can only help in our journey to conceive!

  4. I found this book and had to share it. Millions of people worldwide suffer from infertility, which many do not realize is a biological, psychological, social and spiritual crisis that can take years to come to resolution. Helen Adrienne’s new book, On Fertile Ground: Healing Infertility is not only a explanation of the infertility experience, but it also puts the challenge in perspective, provides a mind/body program to deal with this adversity and reframes the situation in ways that allow for enormous growth. http://bit.ly/fAWsAm

  5. Stephanie, I look forward to supporting you on your weight-loss journey!

  6. Thank you so much, Carolyn!

  7. I agree wholeheartedly with the notion that change doesn’t have to be momentous at once. Small changes here and there can have fantastic results. For instance, cinnamon improves weight loss. Just a teaspoon of cinnamon in your coffee will have the desired effect. I also think small dietary changes such as eating 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up will increase your metabolism and, thus, help with weight loss.

  8. Hey Stephanie your idea about the weight reduction is very insightful, It has encouraged me also to take resolutions for loosing weight.
