Good day to you! It’s Sharon from the Attain® IVF Call Center and I’m happy to share my thoughts with you today.
Not all calls we receive are from people who have been trying for their first baby; we also take calls from those who had a successful first pregnancy only to find difficulty the second time around. This is called secondary infertility.
So when should you see a fertility specialist? If you’re younger than 35 and have been trying for more than 12 months without success, it’s time. And if you’re 35 or older and have been trying for more than 6 months, it’s time. If you’re over 40, (at which point your clock is ticking particularly loud), you may even want to start off your quest for a second pregnancy with a fertility specialist right away.
Unlike couples who have never had a child, couples going through secondary infertility may find it difficult to get support from their network of family and friends. Don’t let the term fool you; there is nothing secondary about secondary infertility. So goes the argument, “well, they have at least one child already.” Of course, a couple can be extraordinarily thankful for their existing child and still long for more children.
If you are experiencing difficulty getting pregnant and are ready to take the next step, please give us a call and we will help schedule your consultation appointment with a fertility specialist most convenient to you. We’re here to support you along your path to parenthood, even when it is the second time around. We can be reached at 1-866-968-7483.
Until next time, all my best.
