A couple weeks ago, I had my orientation with my local infertility clinic. It was a room packed full of women and spouses, all of us desperate for some answers and the OK to start the next step of our journey. It was a great two hours of information and while most of it was familiar to me, it was all new to my husband. We both got a lot out of the session, although I did catch him falling asleep a couple of times!
I met one-on-one with Dr. P the following Monday and had things shaken up a little for us. Despite what we had thought, my husband’s sperm motility is just fine. Or at least fine to Dr. P’s liking. While this is good news for us, it’s frustrating because two previous doctors had said it was an issue. Because there are no motility issues, Dr. P is not ready to go forward with an IUI and instead is starting me on 100mg of Clomid — something that I could have started three months ago if previous doctors had read the charts correctly. Obviously there is a little bit of annoyance for finding out that there was no need to wait, but it is what it is and regardless I am looking forward to really and truly getting infertility treatment.
So the waiting game continues. At some point this week, after my next cycle starts, I will go in for some blood work and then start taking the Clomid the following day. I’ve heard both ends of the spectrum (and everything else in between) about the side effects the drug can have on you and am completely open to whatever happens. My poor husband has been warned of impending mood swings and promises not to hold it against me should it get ugly. While I’m trying not to get my hopes up, it’s hard not to think that maybe this is the only little push we will need. On the other hand, I know so many people who are so far past this stage that I’m also prepared for the possibility of it not working.
Of course, today is a good day and my optimism seems to be in check! We will see how I feel this time next month!
Since it’s been a while since I last updated, this is my first official weight loss check in! I’ve lost four pounds so far, for a total of … four pounds! I’m stepping up the workout this week and am upping the mileage in my runs. Hopefully I will have a good number to report next week!
