Last week I skipped a real weight loss update for a “Woe is me” post about my most recent miscarriage. It’s all over now and I’m starting to get my usual optimism back, so it’s time for a check-in. How have I been doing on each of the lifestyle changes I’ve been making each week?
Let’s find out!
One of my major goals with the Weight Loss and Wellness Wednesday has been not just to lose weight, but to reduce my stress levels and live a more health lifestyle. So, to start out I focused on turning off the electronics (my computer) by 11pm. I work from home and so work and life tend to bleed together.
I did great at first, but I’m writing this right now at 10:30pm on Tuesday night. I’ve been slipping quite a bit, especially in the rush to catch up on work after I took a few days off after my miscarriage. So, back on the wagon I go! Starting tomorrow, I’ll be stashing my laptop early again.
When I don’t eat breakfast, I tend to not have as much energy throughout the day and overeat at lunch. I’ve completely stayed on track, eating breakfast almost every day (except during a bout with the flu). I have my husband to thank for that. He’s been bringing my breakfast up to my bedroom every single morning just to make sure I get a good start. Now that’s love!
Keeping perspective to reduce stress
Another stress issue I have is related to my Type A personality. I have a hard time shutting my brain down and keeping perspective about the small things that don’t matter. So I’ve been making an effort to remember what’s important and not sweat the small things. I have to admit that I haven’t always been successful, but I think I’m definitely doing a better job!
I started swimming to add some additional exercise to my routine. I’ve been pretty good about this one, although I’ve been off for the last few weeks with the miscarriage and the flu. I’ll be back at it later this week!
Stress Eating: Watching how I eat
I think I’ve been pretty good about this. I’ve been keeping snacking to a minimum and making sure I eat regularly scheduled meals. I fell off the wagon last month for a bit, but I’m back on track now.
Nutrition: Watching what I eat
Counting carbs is second nature for me, so this has probably been the easiest of all my goals. But still, there is always room for improvement, so I’ll be continuing to keep my carb count low and follow the best diet for those of us with diabetes and PCOS.
Weight loss for this week: .6 lbs
Total weight loss: 9.6 lbs
I’m almost to 10 pounds! WOOHOOO! Hopefully we’ll be celebrating that milestone next week. And I promise not to celebrate with a bag of Oreos.
How did you do this week? What One Thing did you do to make your life healthier?

Congrats, Steph! I think you make an excellent point — and that life happens. None of are perfect and we will stray from our goals and good intentions at times. What’s important is that we don’t judge ourselves and simply pick ourselves up off the ground, dust ourselves off, and get back on track. (And it’s super cool to have a husband who is incredibly supportive.)
I’m sorry to hear about the miscarriage. It seems that you are trying to move forward one step at a time and this approach seems perfect. I like the goal of turning off the computer at 11pm. It’s so easy to get hooked and before you know it’s 1am. As for eating healthy and exercising, so difficult BUT it seems that your taking it by the head. Excited to follow your journey.
Thanks so much, DEM! Thanks for joining us!
Thanks, Shelly!
