There’s no rush to see a fertility specialist: Busting an Infertility Myth

Myth: You shouldn’t rush to a fertility specialist. If you’re under 40, there’s no cause for alarm if it takes a few years.

Myth Busted!

The first time I asked a doctor if I should be concerned about my inability to conceive, he said “You’re young, there’s really no rush.” Luckily, I have an obsessive relationship with The Google and I know that it’s time to see a fertility specialist if:

You’re under 35 and you’ve been trying for one year without success;

Or you’re over 35 and you’ve been trying for six months without success.

So I got myself to a specialist pronto!

It really frustrates me when I hear from friends or people in our community that, after trying for more than the allotted time above, they still aren’t on the path to seeing a specialist. When it comes to your fertility, especially if you’re over 35, why waste time worrying? Get some answers.

I know some people are worried that seeing a Reproductive Endocrinologist will start them down an expensive path that invariably leads to IVF. That’s not the case. IVF accounts for less than 5 percent of infertility treatments in the US! Your doctor might find an easy fix or something more complicated. Either way, why waste all that time and heartbreak when you can get tested and at least find out what your treatment plan should be?

Still not sure? You can also try out our Fertility Check to see if it’s time to see a specialist as well.

This week is National Infertility Awareness Week and Attain Fertility has teamed up with our friends at RESOLVE to bust some infertility myths. Find out more about infertility and how to bust your own infertility myth on RESOLVE’s website.
