We become comfortable with our doctor’s and grow to trust their evaluations, opinions and treatment. The thought of switching doctor’s is a little scary and the whole getting to know the new office staff, doctors and routine can make one feel vulnerable.
So, when do you call upon a Reproductive Endocrinologist to help with your infertility? Here are some basic age related guidelines:

You are 35 or younger and have not conceived after one year of unprotected intercourse.

You are over 35 and have not conceived after six months of unprotected intercourse.

You are 40 years old or older and you feel your clock is ticking rather loudly.
If you have begun the process of trying for pregnancy and have been experiencing short term issues that may be causing you anxiety, an OB/GYN is a good place to start. It would help you to ask if they are experienced in infertility testing, treatments and evaluations. You may also want to ask a family member or close friend if they would recommend their doctor to you.
But if your fertility has not been resolved with preliminary tests and treatment or if your situation sounds similar to one of the guidelines listed above, then it’s probably time to make the switch to a fertility specialist. Your OB/GYN may recommend someone for you to see or you may do your own research and find one that fits your needs.
