Does IVF cause cancer? No need to panic!

Today we got the question on the Attain Fertility Facebook Page.  A community member asked, “Do hormone injections cause cancer?”  It was an understandable question because of a study that came out last week.  Unfortunately, some in the media have not chosen their words as carefully as they might have in reporting the story.

The answer is, there’s no need to panic.

Our friends at the American Fertility Association have a post up explaining the study and why we shouldn’t freak out.  Go read it!

A new study out of the Netherlands and published in Human Reproduction is making the news today. It is entitled “Risk of borderline and invasive ovarian tumours after ovarian stimulation for in vitro fertilization in a large Dutch cohort”.  Reuters picked it up as “Fertility treatment raises tumor risk in study”.
