Infertility Blog Round Up: Swiss Cheese Brain Strikes Again!

I know, I know. I’ve been hearing the impatiently tapping feet since last Thursday when I thoughtlessly forgot to put up our bi-weekly blog round up! I hope you’ll forgive me. My only excuse is exhaustion. I think I’ve mentioned in the past that I have a part-time photography business. Well, it’s school photo season and, while I don’t normally do that sort of thing, I agreed to do a whole mess of school photos as a fundraiser, with all of the profits going to the school. Apparently I was insane when I agreed to do this.

Did you know that it’s actually more exhausting to shoot photos of wiggly 3-12 year olds all day than it is to shoot an entire 10 hour wedding day? Yeah, neither did I. Lesson learned! Anyway, all of those adorable little faces with missing teeth and 500 questions are a good reminder of what we’re all trying to achieve.

Let’s get my update out of the way first. Our last IUI was a bust. It didn’t work. So now, I’m on CD13, but we’re doing an unmedicated, unmonitored cycle this month. AKA, taking a break. It’s not that I want to, it’s that I’m going to be out of town for work for half of the week. Starting tomorrow. Bad timing. So we’ll try this thing the old fashioned way this month and hope that there are some determined little swimmers hanging around for a few days.

Now onto our semi-weekly blog roundup!

Have you ever had to deal with people who tell you that fertility treatments are “going against nature” or “God wouldn’t approve” or “God didn’t intend for you to have kids”? Andy at Tao of Pigpen has a very nice response to all of that nastiness in his recent blog post Why Fertility Treatments are a Good Choice. I will try desperately to remember his calm and reasoned response the next time I’m tempted to punch someone in the mouth for one of the above comments….

Speaking of things that make you feel horrible, remember that Facebook meme that went around last month where you were supposed to make sly comments to make people think you were pregnant? You may have seen comments like “I’m 10 weeks along and craving Diet Coke.” Well, apparently that was supposed to raise awareness for breast cancer. Silly me. Here, I thought it was just to make my 16 year old cousin’s mother have a very public heart attack. Mel (all hail the Stirrup Queen!) has a great post up explaining exactly why that whole thing was so offensive. The whole thing managed to upset both cancer survivors and people dealing with infertility. Maybe they’ll kick some puppies next time?

And speaking of Mel, the Crème de la Crème for 2011 is opening on October 20th. You can submit a post by someone else or written by yourself. It just has to be related to infertility and have been written in 2011. The whole idea is to give recognition to all of those wonderful fertility bloggers out there who aren’t necessarily winning those little internet popularity contests. I love looking through the Crème list last year – I found so many wonderful new bloggers! I’ll put some reminders up when the big day comes around.

Kat from I’m Very Far Away has a cute but really kind of sad post up called Dear Embryos. It’s a letter to her embryos about why they should stick around and join the family.

CGD from Adventure in Infertility-Land has a heartbreaking post up about the struggles she and her husband have faced making decisions about their fertility treatments. My husband and I struggle on a daily basis with this and yes, it’s incredibly hard on a marriage. She’s not alone.

Keiko has a touching post up about when she knew, really knew that she wanted children NOW. And how the waiting of infertility has affected that. I know I remember that moment when I just knew very well. I’m guessing most of you do too. Keiko’s post is part of the Time Warp Tuesday blog hop organized by Kathy of Four of a Kind. Navigate on over and check out all of the posts.

And last, but certainly not least, Tertia from So Close has a post up about the RESOLVE Night of Hope Awards and her award for best book. I love the pictures!
