It seems to be that time of year when companies are sending out notifications regarding open enrollment for next year’s insurance plans. Since no one is going to dispute that the cost of fertility treatment can make one gasp and is noted as one of the top 3 reasons why people delay treatment, it may be a good idea to do some research and see how your insurance plan may benefit your infertility needs.
Do your research and review your policy. Discuss your benefits with your company’s health plan administrator or call the insurance carrier directly (the contact/email information is usually on the back of the insurance card) and speak with a representative.
Going over your infertility insurance benefits will ensure you’re clear on the insurance company’s clinical definition of “infertile,” if you meet their criteria and what your coverage is. Always ask for a written confirmation of your benefits coverage that you can keep for your files.
