This weekend, I had the pleasure of representing Attain Fertility at RESOLVE’s first annual Walk of Hope in Washington, D.C. We teamed up with our friends at Shady Grove Fertility for an awesome team. But I hope none of them will take offense when I say that I think Lizzy the Dog was my favorite team member!

(A little warning for those of you who are sensitive to the subject – children are mentioned in this post and there are children in the video below.)

It was a beautiful day for a walk and we raised more than $50,000 for RESOLVE! But the most touching part of the day for me, was seeing the messages people put on their shirts and on the Wall of Hope. Messages like “I’m walking for future grandchildren” or “I’m walking for a future brother or sister.” (What my 6 year old asked me to put on his shirt.) Gulp.

On this blog, I’ve avoided talking about my sons and what our infertility treatments mean to them. Frankly, we had no intention of telling them what we’re going through, but they’re smart kids and they know something’s up. And they do know about my miscarriage history and that we had problems starting a family before Hollis came along. The boys are convinced that in a perfect world they would have two older sisters. And the thought of that just makes me want to cry. So at the Walk of Hope, when I turned on the video and asked my youngest son “Why are you walking today?” I had absolutely no idea what he would say. But, of course, he did make me cry.

It was wonderful to see some of our fabulous community members there and we hope to see even more of you next year, because no one should walk alone.
